Ego Morte . Thy Mirror, Thy Horror CS (EK Verlag)

Ego Morte is the new project for Harriet Kate Morgan, the pioneering Australian industrial musician who has previously recorded as Military Position. For now, she's declaring the end to Military Position, and pivoting to Ego Morte. Trauma. Disease. Abuse. Therapies that may be worse than the sicknesses they are intended to cure. All of these lead her to pursue the ego death, the experience in which she deliberately loses her self-identity as an attempt toward spiritual / psychic transformation that could be liberating. but could be terrifying. Like Military Position, Ego Morte deals in heavy electronics, but the tracks are longer, the rhythms more plodding. Time slows down. I hear much more of a connection to Atrax Morgue and Brighter Death Now, rather than Genocide Organ. But, she is still furious at a society that rapes, kills, and mistreats women, and the noise that spins out through her darkened synths and post-mortem brooding is directed through this anger, through her self-annihilation to escape this horror. It culminates in an inspiring, frightening sermon at the end of the album that could only be from Harriet Kate Morgan: "Take it boys, take what's fucking left… No one can deny me my ego death."
